چکیده

Within a theory of liquid-crystals-like materials based on a generalized Cosserat-type formulation, it is shown that continuous distributions of inhomogeneities may exist at the microstructural level.

Thermal Simulation of Solidification Process in Continuous Casting

In this study, a mathematical model is introduced to simulate the coupled heat transfer equation and Stefan condition occurring in moving boundary problems such as the solidification process in the continuous casting machines. In the continuous casting process, there exists a two-phase Stefan problem with moving boundary. The control-volume finite difference approach together with the boundary ...

Stochastic Comparisons of Probability Distribution Functions with Experimental Data in a Liquid-Liquid Extraction Column for Determination of Drop Size Distributions

The droplet size distribution in the column is usually represented as the average volume to surface area, known as the Sauter mean drop diameter. It is a key variable in the extraction column design. A study of the drop size distribution and Sauter-mean drop diameter for a liquid-liquid extraction column has been presented for a range of operating conditions and three different liquid-liquid sy...

Far-Field Patterns from Dye-Doped Planar-Aligned Nematic Liquid Crystals Under Nanosecond Laser Irradiation

High-definition patterns were observed under 10-Hz-pulse-repetition-rate, nanosecond laser irradiation of azodye-doped planar-nematic liquid crystal layers at incident intensities I 5–10 MW=cm in a single beam configuration and without any feedback involved. An incident polarization parallel to the nematic director was used. Under periodic pulsed laser irradiation, far-field beam patterns at th...

Optical inspection of liquid crystal variable retarder inhomogeneities.

Liquid crystal variable retarders (LCVRs) are starting to be widely used in optical systems because of their capacity to provide a controlled variable optical retardance between two orthogonal components of incident polarized light or to introduce a known phase shifting (PS) between coherent waves, both by means of an applied voltage. Typically, the retardance or PS introduced by an LCVR is not...

Verifying the accuracy of dose distribution in Gamma Knife unit in presence of inhomogeneities using PAGAT polymer gel dosimeter and MC simulation

Background: Polymer gel dosimetry is still the only dosimetry method for direct measuring of threedimensional dose distributions. MRI Polymer gel dosimeters are tissue equivalent and can act as a phantom material. In this study the obtained isodose maps with PAGAT polymer gel dosimeter were compared to those calculated with EGSnrs for singleshot irradiations of 8 and 18 mm collimators of...
